Many physical therapists use Pilates and Pilates-based programs to rehabilitate people with arthritis, osteoporosis, and many other conditions and injuries. Pilates is a good way to get in shape without risking injury if you have joint disease or are recuperating from surgery.

Most insurance companies cover Pilates instruction, if provided by a physical therapist, and can reimburse you for much of the cost. Simply obtain a prescription from your doctor for physical therapy, and make sure it specifies Pilates conditioning as your treatment.
